Psychologist / Psychosocial Support for Legal Aid Clients

About the role

The Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) seeks a qualified Psychologist/Psychosocial expert to provide mental health support to clients attending its legal aid clinics. The role focuses on improving the wellbeing of vulnerable groups such as children, women and people with disabilities who are dealing with land, labour, civil and family disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual psychosocial counseling and support to legal aid clients as assigned by the office coordinator.
• Facilitate group therapy sessions and support groups in collaboration with legal and human‑rights staff.
• Maintain accurate records of all client interactions, follow‑up sessions, and updates in the legal aid management system.
• Provide capacity‑building workshops to develop mental‑health awareness and coping skills among staff.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on client services and submit them to the coordinator/legal officer.

Required profile

• Relevant academic qualification in Psychology, Psychosocial Work or a related field.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations, preferably in a legal‑aid or human‑rights context.
• Strong understanding of mental‑health issues such as stress, depression, substance use and suicide risk.
• Ability to work at the clinic at least three days per week and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
