Technical Director, MNCH

About the role

The Technical Director – MNCH provides overall technical leadership, coordination, and oversight for comprehensive maternal, newborn and child health interventions across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and oversight for MNCH interventions, ensuring alignment with national policies and project objectives.
• Lead design, planning, implementation, and scale‑up of MNCH activities, including antenatal care, emergency obstetric care, newborn care, child health, nutrition, and immunization.
• Coordinate with MERL, malaria, and field implementation teams to ensure high‑quality implementation and data‑driven performance improvement.
• Serve as senior technical liaison with Ministry of Health units, regional and local government structures, academic institutions, and other partners.
• Support sustainability and transition by strengthening government leadership, capacity, and integration of MNCH approaches into policies, budgets, and routine systems.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition, immunization, and quality improvement.
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership and capacity strengthening for government health systems.
• Strong background in coordinating multi‑disciplinary teams and working with national technical forums.
• Experience in sustainability and transition planning for health programs.

• Capacity‑strengthening methods including clinical training, mentorship, and supportive supervision.
• Data collection, analysis, and use for performance monitoring.
