Hotel Manager – Kempinski Msasa Lodge, Lake Manyara
kempinski · Tanzania - Manyara
Job description
About the role
Kempinski is looking for a Hotel Manager for its Msasa Lodge, Lake Manyara, an intimate 25-key boutique safari lodge. The manager acts as the on-site general executive, turning Kempinski's European luxury service into an authentic remote wilderness setting. The role covers end-to-end operations, financial performance, supply chain, remote engineering and utilities, team development and conservation partnership compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Run day-to-day operations across rooms/tented suites, food and beverage, guiding/safari activities, engineering, security and spa/wellness, and manage remote logistics such as cold-chain transport, off-grid inventory, fuel and bush supply lines.
- Oversee the physical plant: solar PV arrays, generator backup, borehole water filtration, wastewater treatment and tent preservation.
- Lead bespoke check-ins, game-drive planning and bush dinners, uphold quality assurance benchmarks, and resolve guest concerns while monitoring satisfaction metrics.
- Supervise procurement and supply chain from sourcing hubs to remote airstrips, manage central inventory against seasonal and road constraints, and oversee aviation transfers and guest meet-and-greets.
- Manage the annual operating budget and CAPEX plans, drive gross operating profit through cost control, and work with sales and marketing to optimise distribution with DMCs, safari operators and travel consortia.
- Liaise with Tanzania National Parks, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and local councils, ensure concession lease, environmental audit and park permit compliance, and build relationships with local pastoralist and agricultural communities.
- Drive regional talent acquisition, develop local management, and run staff villages, accommodation, canteen, wellness and rotational leave rosters.
- Supervise the Kempinski training curriculum and embed European luxury service standards.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration or a related field; Master's is a plus.
- Minimum 6-8 years of luxury hospitality leadership, including at least 3-4 years as Hotel Manager, Camp Manager or Assistant GM in an ultra-luxury safari lodge or remote boutique resort.
- Demonstrated pre-opening or rebranding experience in remote African destinations.
- Experience working within national park and wildlife conservancy regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record running high-end tented camps, off-grid utilities and bush logistics.
- Culturally sensitive approach to uplifting local communities.
