General Manager - Catering Contracts

About the role

A catering company represented by its client is looking for a General Manager to oversee the full operational pipeline of its onsite contract locations, from central kitchen production and supply chain logistics to site-level staffing and client relations. The role ensures that thousands of meals are served daily to the highest standards, with strict compliance, quality control and profitability. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach who can manage several contract sites at once.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the main operational liaison for government and private sector contract sites, visiting them regularly to check food quality, service standards, cleanliness and client satisfaction.
• Resolve client concerns and contractual issues promptly, and ensure meal counts, service hours and reporting requirements are met.
• Prepare operational reports and take part in contract review meetings with clients.
• Oversee the central commissary kitchen, working with the Executive Chef on menu planning, costing and recipe standardisation, and enforce ServSafe/HAACP health, safety and sanitation standards.
• Manage procurement and inventory of food, beverages and supplies, coordinate deliveries, and oversee the fleet used for inter-site logistics.
• Recruit, train and manage site supervisors, cooks and general workers, set staffing schedules and control labour costs.
• Develop and manage the operations budget, monitor food and labour costs, and maintain strong vendor relationships.
• Ensure 100% compliance with local health regulations, safety laws and contractual reporting, and create SOPs for consistent high-volume production.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management or equivalent; 4-6 years of operations management experience in catering, food service or hospitality.
• Essential experience managing long-term catering contracts (B&I, government, institutional).
• ServSafe Manager certification required (or obtainable within 30 days of hire).
• Valid driver's licence with a clean record.
• Experience overseeing multiple locations and managing diverse teams.

Required skills

• P&L statements, budget management and cost control in a contract catering environment.
• Proficiency with inventory management software, Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Google Workspace.
