Billing Manager

About the role

A leading import and export company, recruited through Shugulika Africa Limited, is hiring a Billing Manager in Dar es Salaam to oversee billing and collections. The role ensures customers are billed accurately and on time, manages collections effectively, and supervises the billing team so that staff follow the unit's regulations and service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in developing the department's strategies and prepare work plans aligned with the company's objectives.
• Lead the development and oversight of billing and collection policies, procedures and guidelines, and train staff annually.
• Develop billing and collection controls to protect revenue and minimise fraud risk, and ensure compliance with company policies, laws and regulations.
• Coordinate timely, accurate customer billing and daily collections, reconciling them and entering them into the TEAGTL system.
• Oversee collections on behalf of other parties such as TPA and VAT for TRA, and review and approve exemption approvals.
• Review billing tariffs regularly to identify obsolete ones, and review and approve the billing documentation process flow.
• Liaise with auditors, bankers, TRA, TPA and other parties, and review and sign off stevedoring bills before they go to liners.
• Ensure customer complaints and queries are handled professionally and on time.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Management or a related field; CPA certification is an added advantage.
• At least three years of relevant experience in billing or related functions.
• Experience working with external stakeholders such as shipping lines, clearing and forwarding agents and inland container depots.
• Strong managerial and leadership skills with a track record of supervising teams.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of billing processes, including shipping and logistics operations.
• Familiarity with audit processes and tax reconciliation, especially with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
• Excellent understanding of industry regulations and compliance standards.
