Assistant Internal Auditor

About the role

A new Assistant Internal Auditor position in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, reported to the Group Internal Auditor. It sits within a fast-growing multinational group's control and risk environment, covering financial and accounting systems, treasury and credit controls, regulatory reporting, tax compliance, IT, investigations, contracts and business risk. The role is advertised by Altima Talent on behalf of the client.

Key responsibilities

• Risk assessment: coordinate periodic enterprise and process risk assessments, identify risks and control gaps, update risk assessments and adjust the audit plan accordingly, and attend management meetings to keep up on business trends.
• Audit delivery: help build and run risk-based audit plans and advisory reviews, interview stakeholders, walk through processes, write detailed work papers, close out audit issues and report findings with practical recommendations.
• Forensic audits and investigations of fraud, losses, irregularities and malpractice, and spot checks of branches and departments at least once a year.
• Controls and documentation: maintain process documentation, flow charts, risk and control matrices and segregation of duties matrices, monitor control performance in high-risk areas, train staff on internal controls and compliance, and implement new policies and controls.
• Statutory compliance: verify compliance with legislation and regulatory requirements and keep them updated.
• Stakeholder management: build trust with business partners, stay within the department budget and perform other assigned duties.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience in internal audit, risk management, compliance or assurance, preferably in the security or related industry.
• Part professional qualification (CPA(T), ACCA, CISA, CFA, CIA or equivalent) is an added advantage.
• Willingness to travel to offices and branches in Tanzania, with occasional travel to Kenya and Uganda.

Required skills

• Financial controls, treasury and credit controls, financial regulatory reporting, and direct and indirect taxes.
• Operational controls.
• Independent work with minimal supervision and ability to handle ambiguity.
• IT audit or data analytics audit experience is an advantage.
