Chief Finance Officer

About the role

Stratostaff East Africa is recruiting a Chief Finance Officer in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in the insurance sector. The role covers financial management, treasury, investment and risk oversight, and advises management and the board on financial matters.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement accounting systems with appropriate controls, and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, taxation laws and the Tanzania Insurance Act.
• Oversee annual budgets and long-term business plans, and liaise with external auditors and regulators.
• Set up and run a treasury system, monitor cash flow against liabilities and align asset-liability maturities.
• Oversee the credit policy and debt collection process.
• Develop an investment strategy, identify and assess financial risks, and ensure internal controls and internal audit mechanisms are in place.
• Advise management and the board, communicate financial performance to regulators, investors and banks, and maintain relationships with financial institutions and intermediaries.
• Supervise, train and mentor finance professionals and build capacity in the finance department.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Accreditation with relevant professional bodies (e.g. NBAA) is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 8 years of finance experience, including at least 4 years in a senior leadership role in financial services.
