Utilities Operator

About the role

The Utilities Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a range of utility plants, including steam, carbon dioxide, air, water treatment, refrigeration, and BTS facilities. The role ensures reliable utility supply, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and supports production operations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor utilities equipment performance and measure performance attributes.
• Conduct first‑line maintenance tasks and schedules.
• Apply and maintain OHS safety procedures and workplace housekeeping standards.
• Support production operations by optimizing utility performance.
• Operate plant and process equipment and troubleshoot operational problems.
• Ensure environmental compliance and quality control of utilities supply.
• Report plant, machine and process issues and conduct autonomous operator maintenance.
• Perform breakdown maintenance tasks and prepare boilers for government inspections.
• Work collaboratively in teams and communicate effectively.

Required profile

• Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent science.
• At least 2 years of experience in a utilities environment.
• Logical, analytical problem‑solver able to work in a structured setting.
• Coaching ability, initiative, energy and achievement‑driven mindset.
• Strong attention to detail, resilience and commitment to safety.

Required skills

• Knowledge of utility systems and equipment.
• Ability to read gauges, diagrams and operating procedures.
• Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Computer literacy for monitoring and reporting systems.
• Experience with BTS plant operations (advantage).
