Underground Ventilation Engineer (Level 1)

About the role

The Underground Ventilation Engineer (Level 1) is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and optimizing the ventilation system at the Geita Gold Mine. The role ensures a safe, healthy and productive environment by controlling airflow, dust, heat, diesel emissions and hazardous gases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain underground ventilation plans, models and schedules.
• Monitor airflow, gas concentrations, temperature and dust levels and take corrective actions.
• Design ventilation circuits, select fans, regulators and control devices.
• Investigate and resolve ventilation‑related safety or production issues.
• Integrate ventilation requirements into mine planning and design.
• Conduct ventilation surveys, analyse performance data and recommend efficiency improvements.
• Prepare technical reports, statutory documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Mining Engineering degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
• 2‑5+ years of experience in underground mining ventilation.
• Familiarity with mechanized underground mining methods.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Ventilation system design and modelling.
• Airflow and gas monitoring techniques.
• Knowledge of ventilation legislation and company standards.
