Trading Assistant - Coffee

About the role

Volcafe, a leading international green coffee trading company and part of ED&F Man Commodities, is hiring a Trading Assistant in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The role sits within Taylor Winch (Tanzania) Ltd, Volcafe's company in Tanzania, and reports to the General Manager Tanzania. It offers hands-on coffee experience from crop to cup and long-term development in a fast-paced soft commodities environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre- and post-purchase analysis for coffee sourcing to support buying decisions.
• Prepare market reports and curated offer lists for internal teams and clients.
• Assist in basis trading by providing accurate market data and timely insights.
• Maintain internal and project reports and send regular updates to project donors.
• Oversee contract administration, ensuring accuracy, compliance and proper documentation.
• Work with Quality Control, logistics and production teams to ensure smooth contract execution.
• Monitor daily trading positions and track profit and loss.
• Follow global and local coffee market trends to support pricing recommendations.
• Compile routine reports on trading activity, shipment progress and client updates.

Required profile

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, International Trade, Business Administration or a related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in commodity trading, preferably in coffee or agricultural products.
• Good understanding of export-import processes.
• Fluent written and spoken English; Swahili is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills.
• Negotiation, cultural awareness and interpersonal skills.
• Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of ERP or trading software is a plus.
