Senior Accountant – Steel Manufacturing Plant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will oversee the financial records of a steel manufacturing plant, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance with Tanzanian regulations, and support for strategic financial decisions. This role combines day‑to‑day accounting duties with cost control and inventory management in a dynamic industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate general ledger and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Monitor manufacturing costs, analyze production expenses and support cost‑reduction initiatives.
• Control inventory records, perform valuation and reconcile stock movements.
• Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax legislation, including VAT, PAYE, SDL, withholding tax, corporate income tax and customs duties.
• Prepare statutory reports and liaise with the Tanzania Revenue Authority and external auditors.
• Assist the Managing Director in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (CPA‑T, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Experience with Tanzanian tax authorities or audit firms is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of steel, metals or heavy‑industrial sectors is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IFRS and Tanzanian accounting standards.
• In‑depth understanding of Tanzanian tax legislation and statutory reporting.
• Manufacturing cost accounting and inventory valuation expertise.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting software.
