Principal Researcher – Tanzania GBV Prevention Program

About the role

Global Communities is seeking a Principal Researcher to lead the formative research component of a community‑based gender‑based violence (GBV) prevention program in Tanzania. The role will design, pilot, and scale evidence‑based interventions based on the Bandebereho model, working closely with local researchers and stakeholders across 15 councils.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive formative research protocol, including sampling design, ethics approval, and data‑collection instruments (FGD guides, KII protocols, observation tools).
• Recruit, train, and supervise a network of Kiswahili‑speaking, community‑embedded researchers for pilot and scale‑up districts.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on gendered social norms, intimate partner violence dynamics, and community structures to inform curriculum adaptation.
• Provide rolling preliminary findings to enable concurrent curriculum refinement and implementation planning.
• Document and disseminate research outcomes to project leadership and donor partners.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Social Sciences, Public Health, Gender Studies, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience leading large‑scale formative research in low‑resource settings.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary research teams and navigating ethical review processes.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
