Declaration Officer - Bonded Warehouse

About the role

A leading company in the automotive industry, represented by its client, is looking for a Declaration Officer to manage customs declarations, bonds and securities for its private bonded warehouse in Dar es Salaam. The role ensures compliance with customs regulations, accurate documentation of imports, exports and transit goods, and proper administration of bonds and guarantees. The officer works closely with customs authorities, clearing agents and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process customs declarations for bonded warehouse operations in line with regulatory requirements.
• Administer and monitor customs bonds, securities and guarantees, making sure they are renewed on time and used properly.
• Verify invoices, permits, packing lists and other supporting documents before submission to customs.
• Maintain accurate records of bonded stock, bond utilisation and outstanding liabilities.
• Liaise with customs authorities, clearing agents and internal departments to resolve bond or declaration issues.
• Reconcile warehouse stock movements, duty suspensions and bond releases to avoid non-compliance.
• Track changes in customs regulations and tariffs and advise management on their compliance implications.
• Generate periodic reports on bonds status, securities and compliance performance.

Required profile

• East Africa Customs Freight Forwarding Practising Certificate (mandatory).
• Bachelor's degree in Customs, Supply Chain, Logistics or a related field.
• Minimum 2-4 years' experience in customs declaration, bonded warehouse operations or similar roles.
• Strong understanding of customs laws, tariffs and bonded warehouse procedures.
• Excellent analytical, documentation and reporting skills; high integrity, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with customs authorities and internal stakeholders.
