Community Engagement and Gender Officer

About the role

Plan International is recruiting a Community Engagement and Gender Officer for a project in Tanga, Tanzania, focused on empowering young people, especially young women, to make informed decisions about their health and future. The project is implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister's Office for Regional Administration and Local Government, covering outputs 2 and 3 of the project. The position reports to the Project Manager and is open only to candidates with the right to live and work in Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Lead capacity strengthening of local civil society organisations (CSOs) under Work Package 4, including training on grant writing, proposal development and gender-transformative interventions
• Manage and accompany the competitive grant process, support selected organisations and monitor grant implementation, results and use of funds
• Give technical guidance to CSOs on gender-transformative approaches, inclusion and safeguarding, and link them with schools, health facilities, youth clubs and community structures
• Support the integration of gender-transformative and inclusive approaches into school and youth club activities, advising on training content and facilitation methods
• Contribute to coordination, reporting and documentation of learning on community engagement and gender equality with the Team Leader and other experts

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in gender studies, social sciences, public health or development studies
• 5 years of professional experience in community engagement or gender equality
• 3 years of experience implementing gender-transformative interventions
• 3 years of professional experience in an international organisation
