Business Development Officer

About the role

The Business Development Officer will drive growth of the Micro‑SME loan portfolio for NBC, Tanzania's longest‑standing bank. The role focuses on acquiring and managing borrowing customers across the Kua Nasi, Agriculture and La Riba segments while ensuring compliance with the bank’s credit policies.

Key responsibilities

• Achieve branch loan‑portfolio targets by onboarding eligible Micro‑SME customers.
• Follow up sales leads, negotiate lending opportunities and engage internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct credit underwriting: receive applications, verify documentation, assess creditworthiness and coordinate with CRC members.
• Manage approved loans, monitor post‑disbursement utilization, ensure documentation compliance and facilitate renewals or refinancing.
• Mobilize deposits and cross‑sell additional bank products to Micro‑SME clients.
• Deliver mass‑marketing, training and product‑awareness sessions for customers and branch staff.
• Maintain strong customer relationships, provide advisory services and represent the bank in meetings.

Required profile

• Experience in banking, credit underwriting or loan portfolio management, preferably within the Micro‑SME segment.
• Strong understanding of credit policies, product procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers, regulators and internal teams.
• Proactive approach to identifying business opportunities and driving deposit mobilization.
