Accountant - Media Business

About the role

A client of Shugulika Africa Limited is looking for an experienced Accountant to oversee the financial operations of a diversified media business made up of a radio station, an online platform and a production company, all under one integrated structure. The role is based in Dar es Salaam and is full time. The ideal candidate has a solid background in accounting and financial management, with at least 3 years of experience in Tanzania, preferably in the media industry.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update the general ledger, balance sheet and other financial statements.
• Prepare and file statutory financial reports in line with Tanzanian law.
• Manage cash flow so funds are available for day-to-day operations.
• Process accounts payable and receivable and reconcile accounts.
• Assist with the annual budget, monitor monthly budget variances and help with long-term financial planning and forecasting.
• Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax laws (VAT, income tax, withholding tax) and prepare and file tax returns; manage tax audits and liaise with tax authorities.
• Oversee payroll and ensure timely submission of PAYE and other statutory deductions.
• Prepare financial reports for management and stakeholders, and advise on cost efficiency and profitability.
• Liaise with auditors, enforce internal financial controls and flag risks or irregularities.
• Advise management and departments, manage relationships with banks, vendors and clients, and perform other duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Managing Director.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field (required).
• CPA or equivalent certification is a plus.
• At least 3 years of accounting experience, with a focus on data accuracy, coding, reconciliations and project monitoring.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
• Experience with project-based financial tracking, budgeting and reporting is highly preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP or Oracle.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry.
• Strong project management and financial tracking skills.
