UG Electrical Superintendent

About the role

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is looking for an experienced Underground (UG) Electrical Superintendent to lead the electrical function of its underground operations. You will be responsible for ensuring safety, reliability and performance of critical power systems while fostering a zero‑harm culture.

Key responsibilities

• Safety and compliance: enforce IEC, IEEE and mine safety standards, LOTOTO and LV/MV switching procedures, lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Asset reliability and performance: monitor ventilation, pumping, compressed‑air and MV/LV distribution systems, drive root‑cause analysis and reliability improvement plans.
• Maintenance execution and planning: oversee planned and breakdown maintenance, validate preventive‑maintenance strategies, ensure availability of spares and technical documentation.
• Technical governance: guarantee compliance with approved single‑line diagrams (SLDs), general arrangement drawings, protection settings and coordination studies; approve technical changes.
• Operational coordination: align engineering activities with production schedules, coordinate shutdowns, changeovers and peak‑load management.
• Projects and continuous improvement: lead UG electrical/mechanical projects, identify cost‑saving initiatives and support capital‑project integration.
• Reporting and performance management: produce daily operational reports, weekly reviews and monthly KPI tracking on availability, MTBF/MTTR, power quality and safety metrics.
• Team leadership and development: manage UG engineering teams, ensure competency in MV/HV operations and drive performance across foremen and supervisors.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising underground electrical systems in a mining environment.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE and mine safety standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Experience with reliability improvement, root‑cause analysis and preventive‑maintenance planning.
• Capability to coordinate engineering activities with production requirements and manage large‑scale projects.
• Leadership experience managing technical teams and driving performance.
