Underground Drill & Blast Engineer (Level 3)

About the role

The Engineer 3 will provide technical support to underground production drill and blast operations at the Geita Gold Mine. The role ensures that drill and blast plans are designed, scheduled and executed safely, efficiently and in line with site standards. It also involves mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Review, design and optimise stopes, drill designs and charge plans to meet site standards.
• Prepare drilling and blasting schedules in consultation with mine planning and operations.
• Monitor drill stock, support explosive store inspections and contribute to cost‑effective operations.
• Lead stope closure activities, compile closure notes and provide required production reports.
• Maintain safe working practices, meet statutory safety and environmental reporting requirements and participate in inspections and audits.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Mining Engineering with a valid driving licence and blasting certificates.
• 6+ years of experience in underground drill and blast operations, preferably in a mechanised mine using long‑hole open stoping and transverse stoping methods.
• Experience supervising mining works and coordinating personnel; mine planning experience is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with mining software such as Aegis, Vulcan, Datamine and Deswik.
• Strong computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Working knowledge of underground mining, haulage and drill design optimisation.
