Tax Compliance Officer

About the role

A leading manufacturer of skin care, oral care, squash and hair care products in East Africa, represented by its client Shugulika Africa Limited, is looking for a Tax Compliance Officer in Dar es Salaam. The role ensures full adherence to tax laws and reporting standards, manages accurate tax reporting and filing, and acts as the main liaison with tax authorities and external auditors.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file accurate tax returns (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, Corporate Tax, SDL, etc.) according to Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) requirements.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and advise management on their implications.
• Ensure timely payment of tax obligations and keep proper documentation.
• Reconcile tax accounts and resolve discrepancies with the TRA or internal records.
• Coordinate tax audits and respond to queries from tax authorities.
• Maintain records of tax filings, assessments and correspondence, and support internal and external audits with tax documentation.
• Advise other departments on tax matters such as invoicing and procurement, identify tax risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or a related field.
• CPA (T) or equivalent professional certification is an added advantage.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in tax compliance or accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
• Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws and TRA procedures.

Required skills

• Experience with tax software and ERP systems (e.g. Tally, SAP, QuickBooks).
• Proficiency in MS Excel and financial reporting tools.
