Senior Technical Advisor – Laboratory Services

About the role

The Senior Technical Advisor – Laboratory Services provides strategic and technical leadership to strengthen laboratory quality, accessibility, efficiency and sustainability within the HIV/TB program in Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and guidance on laboratory services for HIV, TB, HPV DNA and other priority conditions.
• Support implementation of national laboratory policies, SOPs and ISO 15189:2022 quality management systems.
• Strengthen sample collection, transportation, testing, result return and client follow‑up processes.
• Monitor laboratory indicators, conduct assessments, mentorship and quality improvement initiatives.
• Develop and deliver training, job aids and mentorship tools for laboratory staff.

Required profile

• Graduate or postgraduate degree in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health or Project Management.
• Registered and licensed with the appropriate professional regulatory body in Tanzania.
• At least 8 years of experience coordinating and supporting laboratory services and diagnostics.
• Excellent communication skills and experience working with multicultural teams.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with GeneXpert and TrueNat platforms.
• Familiarity with CD4 machines (PIMA, Visitect) and viral load processing tools.
• Knowledge of electronic Sample Referral Systems (eSRS) and Lab Visual programs.
• Experience implementing ISO 15189:2022 laboratory quality management systems.
