Project Officer – Antimicrobial Resistance

About the role

The Project Officer will support the implementation of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) interventions across Tanzania. Working within Amref Health Africa’s AMR component, the role focuses on technical support, data‑driven prescribing, and coordination with national and One Health stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Implement approved AMR/AMS interventions in line with work plans, budgets, donor requirements and national policies.
• Coordinate the Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) hub‑and‑spoke model, linking pharmacy teams, multidisciplinary clinical teams, Medicines and Therapeutics Committees and facility management.
• Facilitate review and use of AMR surveillance data, facility antibiograms, antimicrobial consumption and medicines‑use information to promote evidence‑based prescribing.
• Develop, adapt and disseminate technical guidelines, SOPs, mentorship tools, training materials and policy briefs.
• Provide technical mentorship, supportive supervision and capacity‑building activities at national and sub‑national levels.
• Maintain collaboration with the National AMR Secretariat, Medicines Control Committee, technical working groups, laboratories, professional associations and One Health partners.
• Track follow‑up of technical recommendations from governance and project meetings and ensure timely reporting.
• Support planning and implementation of World AMR Awareness Week 2026 activities and related evidence dissemination.

Required profile

• Experience in technical implementation of AMR or AMS programmes.
• Proven ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams and engage with government and stakeholder bodies.
• Experience in mentorship, supportive supervision and capacity‑building within the health sector.
