Junior Climate Finance and ESG Specialist

About the role

The Junior Climate Finance and ESG Specialist will support the analysis and structuring of climate‑focused and sustainability‑oriented investments. Working on‑site in Dar es Salaam, the role involves reviewing project proposals, financial models and ESG risk profiles, and preparing reports, presentations and policy briefs for internal and external audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and structure climate‑finance and ESG investment opportunities, including reviewing proposals and financial models.
• Assess ESG risk profiles and ensure projects meet international safeguard and ESG standards.
• Conduct research on global and regional climate‑finance mechanisms and track ESG disclosure requirements.
• Prepare reports, presentations and policy briefs on climate finance trends, sustainable finance instruments and ESG developments.
• Contribute to the development of tools and methodologies for project evaluation.
• Collaborate with senior team members to engage clients, support capacity‑building activities and ensure alignment with international sustainability standards.

Required profile

• Strong analytical abilities to interpret data, assess project risks and evaluate investment opportunities.
• Knowledge of finance and climate‑finance concepts, including sustainable finance instruments and basic investment appraisal techniques.
• Ability to work with financial statements and related documents for project and institutional analysis.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for report writing, policy briefs and stakeholder engagement.
• Foundational accounting skills, including budgeting, cost tracking and financial reporting principles.
• Relevant academic background in finance, economics, accounting, sustainability, environmental science, public policy or a related field (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in climate finance and ESG topics.
