Jumbo Operator

About the role

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is looking for an experienced Jumbo Operator to support underground mining operations. You will work independently and lead technical activities while upholding the company’s safety and sustainability values.

Key responsibilities

• Mark up mining faces according to geological, statutory and survey specifications.
• Install ground support systems and drill cable‑bolt holes, declines, and related infrastructure.
• Lead and complete technical tasks without supervision, ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
• Maintain compliance with safety, confidentiality, environmental and other company policies.
• Conduct and report results, keeping detailed records and logs.
• Prepare manuals, communication materials and other documentation on technical issues.
• Resolve complex technical problems in line with company policies.
• Prioritise and schedule departmental work requests.
• Inspect and replace company tools as needed.
• Mentor less‑experienced colleagues to enhance their technical knowledge.

Required profile

• College or technical training equivalent to at least two years of study.
• Ability to read and interpret ground‑support plans.
• Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge of jumbo rigs.
• Strong oral and written English communication skills.
• Awareness of Mines Health & Safety Act.
• 8‑10 years of experience as a Jumbo Trainer/Operator, preferably in expatriate settings.
• Previous supervisory or trainer experience.
• Proven experience in underground mining operations.

• Operation of Tamrock 2009 Axera Twin Boom Jumbo rigs.
• Ground‑support installation and maintenance.
• Drill cable‑bolt hole installation.
• Basic electrical systems on jumbo equipment.
• Basic mechanical systems on jumbo equipment.
• Underground mining operational knowledge.
