Instrumentation Technician

About the role

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is looking for an Instrumentation Technician to join the North Mara Gold Mine site. You will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems that keep the plant operating safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all regulatory, health, safety and environmental policies and report any HSE issues.
• Perform daily inspections, preventive maintenance and corrective work on electrical, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic instruments.
• Maintain stock of sensors (pressure, temperature, flow, valve) and record calibrations, parts usage and inventory.
• Troubleshoot process‑control problems, including SCADA and PLC systems, and interpret engineering specifications, schematics and blueprints.
• Apply isolation and lock‑out procedures, follow 5S housekeeping standards and conduct shift handovers.
• Monitor flows, water quality and feed processes, and ensure projects are completed accurately within set timeframes.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or Industrial Automation.
• Instrumentation Trade Test certificates.
• Minimum 2 years post‑trade‑test experience in a plant or mining environment.
• Knowledge of diagnostics, SCADA systems and control philosophy.

Required skills

• Instrumentation maintenance and calibration.
• Electrical, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic systems.
• Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and SCADA troubleshooting.
• Reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints and engineering specifications.
• Isolation and lock‑out procedures, 5S methodology and HSE compliance.
