HR Assistant (WFP Volunteer)

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is re-advertising a volunteer position for an HR Assistant in Dar es Salaam. The role supports the accurate implementation of WFP policies and procedures and helps HR services function effectively in a client-focused, strategy-oriented way.

Key responsibilities

• Answer general HR queries and follow up actions so that clients receive consistent, high-quality HR services
• Give guidance and on-the-job training to other staff on HR systems and procedures
• Liaise with internal units such as payroll and contracts, and provide the information needed for timely HR services
• Extract and compile HR data on recruitment, contracts, entitlements, performance and training needs for analysis and reporting
• Provide administrative support in assigned HR activities, including onboarding new staff in line with processes
• Maintain confidential personnel records, HR databases and archives
• Draft HR documents such as employment contracts, transfer letters and training documents
• Enter and update HR data in HR management systems and monitor deadlines such as contract expiration and PACE
• Support staff deployment and prepare basic reports to help WFP respond quickly to crises

Required profile

• Experience managing and implementing HR policy and procedures in line with WFP operating standards
• Experience in HR services such as payroll administration, recruitment and interview administration
• Experience giving ad-hoc guidance to less experienced staff and briefing new recruits during onboarding
• Experience working across a range of WFP contexts and with varying strategic priorities
• Secondary school completion; a post-secondary certificate in the related field is desirable
• Fluency in the UN language used at the duty station and in the local language, if different
