Sign Language Interpreter – Preferred Supplier List (Consultant)

About the role

Sightsavers is inviting qualified sign language interpreters in Tanzania to join its Preferred Supplier List (PSL). Successful candidates will be pre‑qualified consultants who may be contacted for short‑term, intermittent assignments supporting the Mastercard Foundation Digital Futures Programme and other Sightsavers activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accurate, impartial sign‑to‑spoken and spoken‑to‑sign interpretation for meetings, workshops, trainings, webinars, field visits and recorded content.
• Prepare for assignments by reviewing agendas, slides, technical terminology and any safeguarding or accessibility notes.
• Maintain professional neutrality, confidentiality and respect for Deaf participants and all stakeholders.
• Advise on additional accessibility support needed, such as co‑interpreters, captioning or relay services.
• Raise any concerns related to accessibility, safeguarding, data protection or logistics through Sightsavers’ established channels.

Required profile

• Professional experience delivering sign language interpretation in the relevant national sign language and spoken language.
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture, communication preferences and disability inclusion.
• Experience in development, education, health, community or safeguarding contexts.
• Ability to work respectfully with diverse participants, including children, adults at risk and people with disabilities.
• Willingness to complete due‑diligence checks, safeguarding briefings and right‑to‑work verification.

Required skills

• Understanding of professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities.
