Director of Perioperative Services

About the role

The Director of Perioperative Services leads all nursing and ancillary staff across scheduling, admissions, operating rooms, recovery, endoscopy and sterile processing. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the role ensures high‑quality patient care, regulatory compliance and efficient resource use.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee nursing and support personnel in scheduling, admissions, OR, recovery, endoscopy and SPD.
• Develop and enforce nursing policies in partnership with the Policy Committee and CNO.
• Review and adjust operating schedules, coordinate surgeon availability and communicate delays.
• Interview, hire and recommend termination for OR, recovery, endoscopy and SPD positions.
• Collaborate with Safety Officer on orientation, training and competency programs.
• Validate overtime, manage vacation and time‑off planning, and monitor licensure and certification status.
• Supervise annual performance evaluations and professional development activities.
• Ensure proper sterilization, instrument storage and equipment maintenance.
• Monitor supply ordering, capital equipment requests and liaise with manufacturers.
• Participate in Quality Improvement Committee, reporting complications and infection data.
• Maintain regulatory compliance with governing bodies.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in perioperative nursing management.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a hospital setting.
• Strong knowledge of nursing standards, policies and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to handle physical demands of the role, including lifting 20 lb regularly.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
