Chief Information Officer (CIO)

About the role

A client of Shugulika Africa Limited, a financial institution with a strong presence in microfinance, is looking for a seasoned Chief Information Officer to lead its IT and Management Information Systems (MIS) functions. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CIO will help drive digital transformation, improve operational efficiency and enable data-driven decisions, while collaborating with stakeholders across Africa and Asia.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an IT and MIS strategy aligned with organizational goals and long-term vision.
• Identify opportunities to use innovative technologies to improve scalability and customer experience.
• Lead digital transformation and technology-driven change initiatives with strong program governance.
• Oversee the design, implementation and management of secure, scalable and reliable IT infrastructure.
• Ensure continuity of operations through systems, network security and disaster recovery planning.
• Develop and enforce IT policies supporting data privacy, integrity and compliance.
• Drive improvements to MIS platforms so decision-makers receive timely, accurate insights, and work with departments on reporting requirements.
• Manage relationships with vendors, service providers and consultants, including contract negotiation, SLAs and performance oversight.
• Build and lead a skilled IT and MIS team and promote a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
• At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in IT and MIS, preferably in microfinance or financial services.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

Required skills

• Strong technical expertise in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems architecture and software solutions.
• Proven experience with MIS platforms, data analytics tools and business intelligence systems.
