Assistant Accounting Officer

About the role

A client of Shugulika Africa Limited is looking for an Assistant Accounting Officer in Arusha to support financial management, reporting and internal controls within a lodge environment. The role ensures accurate records, compliance and effective safeguarding of company assets.

Key responsibilities

• Authorise and allocate business expenditure and record daily financial transactions accurately
• Analyse and interpret management accounts, assist with budgets, forecasts, audits and account reconciliations
• Prepare supplier payment requests and assist with payroll preparation and reconciliations
• Resolve general ledger and balance sheet queries and meet finance reporting deadlines
• Maintain internal controls, manage petty cash, mobile wallets and company bank accounts, and conduct internal audits and spot checks
• Manage stock sheets and stock control procedures
• Train staff on accounting systems and basic accounting principles

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field; CPA or CPA progression preferred
• 2-3 years' experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably in hospitality or operations
• Fluency in English and Swahili
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and ability to work under pressure

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Experience with hospitality accounting systems preferred
