Accountant – Tax & Statutory Compliance (Tanzania)

About the role

The Accountant will work closely with the Financial Controller and business unit managers to ensure accurate financial records, tax compliance, and statutory reporting for a construction and industrial projects company in Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all Bureau Veritas statutory filings in Tanzania, including online portals with TRA.
• Maintain up‑to‑date accounting records and process financial transactions in line with company procedures and accounting standards.
• Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax regulations (VAT, withholding tax, instalment tax, PAYE, City Levy, NSSF, SDL, WCR).
• Liaise with external auditors, banks, tax authorities and regulatory bodies during audits and compliance reviews.
• Prepare monthly tax reports, P&L reviews with business unit managers, and quarterly tax health checks.
• Identify financial risks and operational weaknesses, recommending corrective actions.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, support debt collection and AR reconciliations.
• Maintain physical and digital records of financial documents and handle BRELA and other statutory registrations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
• CPA (T) certification recognized by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors.
• 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws and statutory compliance.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as Tally or ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and MS Office skills.
