Accountant – Statutory & Tax Specialist

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage statutory compliance and tax reporting in Tanzania. You will work closely with the Financial Controller and Business Unit Managers to ensure accurate financial records and support audit processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all Bureau Veritas statutory filings in Tanzania, including online portals with TRA.
• Maintain up‑to‑date accounting records and financial transactions in line with company procedures and accounting standards.
• Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax regulations such as VAT, withholding tax, instalment tax, PAYE, City Levy, NSSF, SDL and WCR.
• Liaise with external auditors, banks, tax authorities and regulatory bodies during audits and compliance reviews.
• Prepare monthly tax reports, monthly P&L reviews with Business Unit Managers, and quarterly tax health checks.
• Identify financial risks, discrepancies and operational weaknesses, recommending corrective actions.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
• Maintain physical and digital records of financial documents, handle BRELA and other statutory registrations, and support debt collection and AR reconciliations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
• CPA (T) certification recognized by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors.
• 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws, financial regulations and statutory compliance.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism with excellent attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Tally, Sage or ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with other MS Office applications.
