M-Pesa Director

About the role

Vodafone is looking for a senior leader to drive the growth of M‑Pay, its mobile money platform, in Tanzania. The Director will be responsible for building the ecosystem, expanding financial inclusion and delivering sustainable revenue through innovative fintech solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall financial services strategy, owning full P&L across payments, credit, savings, insurance and other digital products.
• Build and scale strategic partnerships with banks, fintech firms, merchants and government agencies to position M‑Pay as the preferred digital payments platform.
• Lead the development of customer‑centric financial products using data, technology and digital channels to increase usage and improve experience.
• Drive revenue growth through pricing optimisation, expansion of merchant and agent networks and omnichannel distribution.
• Ensure regulatory compliance (AML, KYC, data privacy), strengthen fraud prevention and maintain operational resilience.
• Develop a high‑performing team, shape talent structures and embed a performance‑driven culture.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of experience in financial services, fintech, telecoms or banking.
• Proven executive leadership experience managing large‑scale, regulated businesses with full P&L responsibility.
• Strong commercial acumen and track record of delivering growth and profitability.
• Strategic thinker with ability to build and scale platform‑based business models.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including influencing regulators and partners.
• Customer‑centric mindset focused on innovation and data‑driven decision making.
