Underground Auto Electrical Technical Specialist

About the role

The Underground Auto Electrical Technical Specialist will support the maintenance and repair of heavy underground mining equipment equipped with Remote Control Technology (RCT). This role combines hands‑on technical work with coaching of national auto‑electricians to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with OEM standards.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist maintenance and repair for underground heavy mining equipment, focusing on RCT systems.
• Diagnose faults and perform repairs on remote‑control and electrical systems.
• Coach and transfer skills to national auto‑electricians, providing progress reports.
• Conduct diagnostic electrical testing and advise the UG Engineering Superintendent on technical issues.
• Guide technicians on repairs of petrol and diesel vehicles and plant equipment.
• Coordinate parts requirements with planners and liaise with agents/manufacturers.
• Complete inspection sheets and documentation accurately and promptly.
• Identify and escalate repairs related to unfair wear and tear.

Required profile

• Recognised trade certificate in Auto Electrical, Air Conditioning and Radio Communication.
• 8‑10+ years experience maintaining underground heavy mining equipment.
• Demonstrated coaching and training ability.
• Strong safety focus, teamwork and leadership skills.
• Effective English communication and daily log maintenance.
