International Consultant – Maternal Nutrition Journal Supplement

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an International Consultant to lead the development and publication of a journal supplement on maternal nutrition under the Improving IMAN initiative. The 9‑month remote assignment will synthesize evidence, coordinate multidisciplinary authors, and ensure scientific rigor to inform policy and program design.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise the journal supplement, including background, rationale, target audience, and inventory of existing and planned manuscripts.
• Identify evidence gaps and propose additional manuscripts, defining authorship structures and recommending guest editors.
• Coordinate a multidisciplinary team of authors from government, academia, research institutions and implementing partners.
• Provide technical advisory support, conduct literature reviews on maternal nutrition, ANC‑based interventions and multiple‑micronutrient supplementation.
• Facilitate virtual coordination meetings, technical discussions and progress reviews, with one in‑person meeting if required.
• Ensure alignment with journal submission requirements, timelines and quality standards through editing, proofreading and scientific review.

Required profile

• Proven experience in maternal nutrition research and scientific writing.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multi‑disciplinary research teams.
• Familiarity with journal publishing processes and author‑editor communication.
• Strong analytical skills for literature synthesis and evidence gap identification.
