Geotechnical Technician

About the role

The Barrick Africa and Middle East Team is looking for two Geotechnical Technicians to support underground mining operations in Tanzania. You will apply geotechnical expertise to ensure safe and efficient ore extraction while upholding Barrick’s core values.

Key responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical mapping and logging to classify rock mass for stope design and mine layout.
• Use structural stability methods, empirical assessment and numerical modelling to define support systems, pillar sizes and stopping sequences.
• Advise mine‑operating officials on ground‑control practices and monitor support systems (e.g., pull tests).
• Measure rock strength, stress changes, deformation and seismic activity with rock‑mechanics instrumentation.
• Maintain and update the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and ensure staff training compliance.
• Design and monitor ground support, backfill and instrumentation systems.
• Prepare written reports on analyses, risk assessments and inspections; liaise with external consultants.
• Collect, analyse and report geotechnical data and support performance‑management processes.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering, preferably specialised in Ground Control, Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics.
• Minimum 3 years experience in an underground mining environment.
• 3‑5 years post‑graduate industry experience, preferably in precious‑metal, narrow‑vein, long‑hole stopping operations.
• Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
