Underground Service Crew – Mining Operations

About the role

The Service Crew member works underground at Geita Gold Mine to install and maintain essential services such as air, water, dewatering lines, ventilation fans and cable systems. The role supports safe and efficient mine development by ensuring all installations meet approved plans and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Install underground air, water and dewatering lines within 20 m of the face, using droppers lifted 1.5 m above ground level.
• Set up secondary ventilation fans, hang and extend ventilation bags to at least 20 m from the face.
• Operate and maintain electrical sub‑mersible and mono pumps, including placement in sumps, cable support and pump testing.
• Clean mono pumps, inspect drain valves, and pressure‑wash mono tanks.
• Install, grout and tension cable bolts, preparing cement grout mixes and sealing bolt holes to geotechnical standards.
• Perform general housekeeping and report any safety incidents or damages.

• Ability to follow underground standard operating procedures and work under supervision of the Shift Supervisor.

Required skills

• Cable bolt installation, grouting and tensioning.
• Basic knowledge of safety reporting and hazard identification.
