Senior Transport Manager (STM)

About the role

Dangote Industries Limited is looking for a Senior Transport Manager (Operations) for its Mtwara plant in Tanzania. The role coordinates and manages fleet managers and their teams, oversees truck operations and maintenance, and drives fleet efficiency, cost control and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage fleet managers and their teams, and supervise scheduling of truck movements
• Ensure trucks comply with operations and maintenance standards and that customers are satisfied with the service
• Evaluate the truck fleet continuously to plan improvements in efficiency, effectiveness and economy over the short, medium and long term, and inform management of actions needed to reduce fleet operating costs
• Conduct annual performance appraisals for fleet personnel and set performance goals
• Monitor and report on truck asset maintenance, and liaise with the maintenance unit so trucks stay in good working condition
• Plan and coordinate the fleet operational strategy, including a truck replacement schedule, and work with recovery units on returning impounded, damaged or accidentally lost trucks to service within agreed timelines
• Ensure fleet managers follow company regulations and freight transportation laws, and identify training needs for fleet staff
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operational reports, hold toolbox and safety meetings, and take part in safety committee meetings
• Identify operational issues and opportunities, and perform other duties assigned by the Head of Transport or management

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (preferable) in Transport and Logistics; Master's degree with specialization in Transport and Logistics (preferable)
• At least 25 years of related experience, preferably with at least 15 years in transport
• Able to operate effectively in a high-volume, service-driven transport operation

Required skills

• Strong understanding of the transport system, concepts, strategy and best practice
• Excellent knowledge of the cement manufacturing industry, its trends, challenges, regulations and legislation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation and communication skills
