Senior Mechanical Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Technician to maintain, repair and optimise production machinery and utility systems in a food-processing environment. The role ensures high equipment availability, minimal downtime and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, inspect and maintain production machines such as steam cookers, shelling machines, dryers, boilers, compressors, generators and conveyor systems.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly preventive maintenance, including lubrication, alignment, tightening and component replacement.
• Diagnose mechanical faults, troubleshoot breakdowns and execute repairs within defined timelines.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns, coordinating with production teams to minimise impact.
• Assist in the installation, commissioning and testing of new equipment before hand-over to production.
• Ensure safety guards and protective covers are correctly fitted and maintained.
• Monitor spare-part inventory and raise requisitions for tools, consumables and replacements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, breakdown reports and service records.
• Support internal audits and uphold GMP, HACCP, BRC and factory safety standards.
• Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs, power consumption and operational inefficiencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a technician in an industrial production setting.
• Proven experience with machine maintenance, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
• Familiarity with food-processing machinery and utility systems is a strong advantage.
• Leadership ability to guide helpers and junior technicians.
• Good understanding of GMP, HACCP and industrial safety standards.
• Ability to read technical manuals and maintenance documentation.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills.
