Senior Accountant

About the role

A leading company in the hospitality and entertainment industry, represented by its client, is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee accounting operations and support financial management. The role covers financial reporting, internal controls, audit support and supervising the accounting team.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and oversee the General Ledger so that all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations and help prepare annual financial statements.
• Support internal and external audits and ensure financial records and supporting documents are complete and accurate.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, financial procedures and internal control frameworks.
• Review daily cash reconciliations, monitor cash collections and deposits, and oversee bank reconciliations; assist with cash flow monitoring, forecasting and cash management controls.
• Monitor outstanding accounts receivable, follow up on sponsorship, event and corporate customer receivables, prepare debtor aging reports and support debt collection.
• Supervise supplier account reconciliations, review payment schedules, verify supplier balances and check supporting documentation before payments.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and departmental performance reporting, and support management and Board reports.
• Lead, mentor and supervise the Payables Accountant and Cashiers, and identify ways to improve financial processes and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• CPA (T), ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent professional qualification highly preferred.
• At least five years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a senior accounting position.
• Previous experience supervising finance or accounting staff preferred; hospitality, retail, entertainment or service industry experience is an added advantage.
• Experience supporting audits and complying with statutory and tax requirements.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger management, reconciliations, budgeting and financial controls.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial reporting skills.
• Leadership, communication, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
