Regional Advisor – AML/CFT (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania)

About the role

The International Monetary Fund’s Legal Department is seeking a Regional Advisor (Long‑Term Expert) to lead capacity‑development activities on anti‑money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) across Eastern and Southern Africa. Based in Dar es Salaam, the incumbent will travel frequently to IMF member countries to provide technical assistance and advisory support.

Key responsibilities

• Design, manage and coordinate capacity‑development programmes on financial integrity, focusing on AML/CFT, for IMF member states in the region.
• Conduct needs and risk assessments, draft AML/CFT frameworks and strategies, and provide supervisory guidance.
• Participate in IMF legal missions, both independently and with headquarters staff or short‑term experts.
• Lead AML/CFT assessment missions, including pre‑assessment research, post‑mission analysis and review.
• Organise and facilitate workshops and seminars for officials of member countries, leveraging IMF training facilities and regional partners.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in providing capacity‑development advisory services on AML/CFT to governments or international organisations.
• Strong knowledge of financial‑integrity issues, risk assessment methodologies and regulatory framework design.
• Ability to travel extensively across Eastern and Southern Africa and work collaboratively with senior legal and financial experts.
