Operations Manager - Manufacturing

About the role

A manufacturing company based in Dar es Salaam is looking for an Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of the site's operations in line with customer requirements. The role covers people, products, equipment and storage facilities so that deliveries, collections and safekeeping of products are handled in compliance with agreed service levels, quality specifications and health and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Establish, guide and oversee the department in line with strategy and objectives, and identify and act on problems and opportunities
• Develop and maintain a high-performance team and build stakeholder relationships
• Ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements, corporate governance and international environmental, health, safety and quality standards
• Manage day-to-day plant/facility activities, shift scheduling, training programmes and employee competence
• Manage and report on the operational budget monthly, and produce operational, safety, quality and HR reports
• Oversee product quality, including seed and bean grading, bulk oil analysis, sampling, stock rotation, cross-contamination prevention and dispatch documentation
• Work with the Supply Chain Manager and Raw Materials to secure storage space and uninterrupted production, and communicate with plant managers on planning, procedures and product flows
• Monitor revenue and spending, analyse financial reports to increase profit and reduce costs, and manage site safety risks and continuous improvement
• Implement world-class manufacturing thinking and maintain a culture of learning across staff, contractors and suppliers

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, production or logistics
• Over 5 years of relevant operational experience, including 3 years in a senior operations capacity
• Proven track record of implementing operational best practices in manufacturing, and of managing quality, safety (including food safety) systems and legislation
• Experience in FMCG/manufacturing is advantageous

Required skills

• Computer efficiency in Excel and SAP, and database management or spreadsheets
• Knowledge of industrial plant design, construction, commissioning and operations
• Understanding of labour legislation, OHSA and regulatory requirements
• Project management, planning and organisational skills, and excellent written and verbal skills
