Operations Manager - Dry Cargo

About the role

Shugulika Africa Limited is looking for an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to oversee dry cargo transport operations, sales orders and customer service across Tanzania and neighbouring regions. The role covers logistics operations, on-time deliveries and business growth, with the company based in Dar es Salaam.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and manage local and cross-border dry cargo transport, ensuring timely dispatch and delivery.
• Coordinate fleet movement, monitor turnaround times and optimise routes to reduce fuel costs and empty runs.
• Oversee customer order processing and ensure accurate, on-time fulfilment aligned with growth targets.
• Act as main contact for key clients, handling inquiries, complaints and relationship building.
• Ensure proper loading and unloading at depots, warehouses and client sites.
• Supervise drivers and operations staff, provide training and monitor performance and compliance.
• Maintain regulatory documentation, including permits, licenses and customs clearance requirements.
• Track operational costs such as fuel, repairs and allowances and implement cost-saving measures.
• Prepare reports on deliveries, incidents and fleet performance, enforce safety procedures and handle incidents.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain or a related field.
• Minimum 5-8 years managing dry cargo operations, with at least 3-5 years in cross-border logistics and customer management.
• Strong understanding of East and Southern Africa transport networks and regulations.
• Fluent English; knowledge of Kiswahili and/or French is a plus.
