Legal Counsel – Maritime & Corporate Law (Tanzania)

About the role

The Legal Counsel will support CMA CGM’s Tanzania cluster by handling day‑to‑day legal matters across maritime, insurance, and corporate domains. The role involves close collaboration with maritime surveyors, external lawyers, and internal stakeholders to protect the company’s interests.

Key responsibilities

• Manage claims and maritime litigation, including receipt of protest letters, expert reports, and coordination with surveyors and lawyers.
• Issue damage notifications, process SSC pre‑claims, and provide documentation such as discharge tally sheets, vessel protest letters, commercial invoices, packing lists, and container damage reports.
• Oversee insurance contracts, notify insurers and brokers of vehicle damages, commission experts, and follow claims through to compensation.
• Draft, negotiate, and track contracts related to container transport, IT, security, and real‑estate leases for both commercial and expatriate use.
• Provide legal advice on major negotiations, manage litigation arising from contracts, and ensure compliance with group legal validation thresholds.
• Handle corporate law matters for cluster subsidiaries, including statutory modifications, opening/closing entities, and notarial deeds.
