Head of Business Development

About the role

Plan International is seeking a strategic leader to head its Business Development function. The role will transform resource mobilisation, diversify funding streams and position the organisation as a preferred partner for advancing children’s rights, gender equality and youth empowerment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a forward‑looking Resource Mobilisation Strategy aligned with the Country Strategy.
• Lead the Business Development Unit, overseeing end‑to‑end fundraising, pipeline development, forecasting and portfolio health.
• Expand institutional, corporate and innovative financing streams, including private, climate and blended finance opportunities.
• Strengthen strategic partnerships, consortium leadership and donor positioning.
• Ensure compliance, cost‑recovery and value‑for‑money in all funding agreements.
• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on funding decisions, balancing risk and alignment.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in business development, resource mobilisation or fundraising within the development/humanitarian sector.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a matrix environment.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in market intelligence and donor landscape analysis.
• Track record of achieving ambitious multi‑year income targets and diversifying funding portfolios.
