Finance Controller - Logistics

About the role

A client in the transport and logistics industry based in Dar es Salaam is looking for a highly analytical, detail-oriented and commercially focused Finance Controller. The role covers financial analysis, cost control and performance reporting for the logistics function, including transport costs, fleet performance and budgeting and forecasting.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse transport costs, cost per kilometre, vehicle profitability and fleet operating performance, and prepare weekly and monthly logistics reports and dashboards.
• Support cost reduction initiatives and review repair and maintenance expenses against vehicle utilisation.
• Verify operational advances, exceptional payments and other logistics transactions, and investigate abnormal costs.
• Support annual budgets, financial plans and forecasts, and reconcile GPS kilometre data with accounting records.
• Validate fuel consumption, analyse fuel efficiency, and develop Excel-based costing models and management dashboards.
• Analyse profitability by customer, vehicle and route, and prepare financial forecasts.
• Strengthen internal controls, support fraud prevention, and automate recurring reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
• 3-7 years of experience in finance, financial analysis, cost accounting or a related role; transport, logistics or manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of transport costing, operational finance, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Excellent written and verbal English; knowledge of Swahili is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel, including financial models, costing templates and dashboards.
• Experience with Tally ERP or similar accounting systems.
• Reconciling operational data such as GPS and fuel with financial records is highly desirable.
