Engineer 1 – Open Pit Planning

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking an Engineer 1 to support open‑pit planning at the Geita Gold Mine in Tanzania. The role provides day‑to‑day technical assistance to the production team, ensuring that mining plans are followed and that pit and waste‑dump designs meet safety and operational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare weekly pit plans, Bench Operating Plans and Daily Dig Plans aligned with the monthly production schedule.
• Monitor compliance with NAF and PAF boundaries and verify design parameters for pits, waste dumps and stockpiles.
• Use Vulcan or Datamine to perform short‑term planning checks, update production analyses and incorporate planning changes.
• Coordinate inputs from geology, geotechnical, mining production and engineering teams to support the overall production plan.
• Track broken stock levels, equipment productivity, utilisation and operational costs, providing timely feedback on risks and opportunities.
• Follow safe working procedures and proactively address operational safety matters.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining or Civil Engineering.
• Registered graduate Mining Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
• Valid Tanzania driving licence.
• Minimum three years of experience in open‑pit mining, including at least one year of cross‑functional exposure (geology, survey, long‑term planning, production, drill & blast).

Required skills

• Proficiency with Vulcan, Datamine, SPRY or Rapid Reserver mining software.
• Strong competence in spreadsheet and database applications.
• Effective written and oral communication in English.
