Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Accountant will support the finance team by managing cash flow, reconciling client accounts, and handling premium collections. The role ensures timely responses to queries from intermediaries, brokers, and customers while maintaining accurate accounting records.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor daily cash flow and enforce cash‑before‑cover policy.
• Collect premiums, allocate daily receipts, and resolve account queries.
• Verify premium payments before claim processing and ensure claims are confirmed within 24 hours.
• Reconcile intermediary accounts, ensuring no unreconciled balances older than 30 days.
• Prepare and send monthly reconciliation statements to intermediaries.
• Liaise with underwriters on fund receipts for timely posting.
• Support strategic initiatives related to premium collection and credit control across head office and branches.
• Respond promptly to customer, agency, and regional credit‑control queries.
• Reconcile and pay commission reports by the first week of each month; issue outstanding statements by the 10th.
• Deliver performance targets as defined in departmental scorecards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field.
• Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with Britam insurance products.
