Water Resources Management, Climate and Carbon Specialist

About the role

Water For People Tanzania is seeking a Water Resources Management, Climate and Carbon Specialist to provide strategic and technical leadership for integrating climate adaptation, nature‑based solutions and water resources management into WASH programmes. Based in Dodoma, the role will collaborate with the National Carbon Monitoring Centre, Ministry of Water, Vice President’s Office (Environment), basin water boards, local authorities, research institutions and international partners to strengthen the long‑term sustainability of water and sanitation services.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate climate risks, water security and ecosystem restoration into district planning, infrastructure design and service delivery.
• Lead the development and implementation of Tanzania’s carbon credit programme, including opportunity identification, project design, MRV systems and certification.
• Mobilise climate finance and develop innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable WASH services.
• Provide technical assistance for corporate water‑stewardship investments and quantify volumetric benefits.
• Support policy influence, proposal development and strategic partnerships to position Water For People as a national leader in climate‑resilient WASH.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in water resources, environmental science, climate change or related field.
• Proven experience in integrated water resources management, climate adaptation and carbon finance.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, NGOs and private sector partners.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
