Green Coffee Trader

About the role

The client seeks an experienced, commercially driven Green Coffee Trader to manage sourcing, trading, and relationships across local and international coffee markets. The role involves overseeing physical coffee transactions, pricing, risk management, and ensuring quality standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Source and negotiate green coffee purchases with farmers, washing stations, cooperatives, and exporters.
• Develop and maintain relationships with roasters, importers, industrial buyers and other stakeholders.
• Monitor global coffee markets (ICE Futures U.S. for Arabica, ICE Futures Europe for Robusta) and apply market intelligence to trading decisions.
• Manage physical coffee positions, inventory, transit pipelines, warehouse costs and capital allocation.
• Execute hedging strategies to manage commodity price and FX risks.
• Evaluate coffee quality through grading and cupping, ensuring specifications are met.
• Coordinate logistics, shipping, customs and trade documentation (Bills of Lading, Phytosanitary Certificates, etc.).
• Monitor market trends, harvest cycles and origin risks to support effective trading decisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, Economics, Supply Chain, Finance or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5–8+ years of hands‑on experience in coffee or commodity trading.
• Strong understanding of coffee pricing, differentials, futures markets and risk management.
• Knowledge of coffee origins, harvest cycles, supply‑demand dynamics and export processes.

Required skills

• ICE Futures market analysis (Arabica and Robusta).
• FX and commodity hedging techniques.
• Coffee quality assessment and cupping, including CQI Q‑Grader certification (preferred).
• Trade documentation handling (Incoterms, Bills of Lading, Phytosanitary Certificates).
