Transport Relations Manager

About the role

A client in the logistics, clearing and forwarding industry is looking for a Transport Relations Manager to join its operations team in Dar es Salaam. The role manages and strengthens relationships with transporters so that transportation services remain efficient, compliant and reliable, and coordinates daily logistics activities, monitors transporter performance and resolves operational issues.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with transporters and logistics partners, and negotiate and review transporter contracts.
• Monitor daily shipment movements and provide timely updates on border status, transit progress and delivery milestones.
• Coordinate loading and offloading and ensure suitable trucks are available for allocations.
• Track transporter performance against KPIs such as on-time delivery, safety compliance, vehicle condition and service efficiency, and prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports.
• Act as main contact for transporters, drivers, border agents and branch managers, handling amendments, complaints, disputes, accidents and breakdowns.
• Ensure transporter documentation meets legal, regulatory, customs and company requirements, and keep accurate records of shipments, deliveries and invoices.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities, train transporters on system use and onboarding new transporters while removing underperforming ones.
• Analyse performance data to recommend improvements and follow company policies and regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in logistics, clearing and forwarding, transport management, procurement management or a related field.
• 3-4 years of experience in logistics, transport or clearing and forwarding.
• Excellent communication skills and strong English proficiency; diplomatic and able to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Office 365).
• Understanding of TRA and port systems is an added advantage.
• Experience with ERP systems or web-based logistics applications is an added advantage.
• Ability to analyse data, prepare detailed operational reports and handle numerical tasks accurately.
